Dutch Open: Alexandrova defends her title against top seed Kudermetova

No 4 seed Ekaterina Alexandrova won the Dutch Open trophy by edging out top seed Veronika Kudermetova 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (3) at the Autotron Rosmalen in’s-Hertogenbosch on Sunday.
She defended the title she won here last year, joining Tamarine Tanasugran as the only woman to retain her title at this event.
Alexandrova now has 22 career wins over opponents ranked in the Top 20, and is currently on a five-match winning streak.

Earlier in the tournament, Alexandrova, ranked No 26, beat Evgeniya Rodina (6-3, 6-4), Australian Kimberly Birrell (6-4, 7-6 (3)), American qualifier Emina Bektas (6-4, 6-4) and Belarusian Aliaksandra Sasnovich, the No 7 seed (6-1, 7-6 (1)).
Kudermetova, ranked No 14, defeated American Alison Riske-Amritraj (6-3, 3-0 ret.), Canadian qualifier Carol Zhao (6-1, 6-3), Swiss wildcard Celine Naef (6-3, 6-2) and Slovak Viktoria Hruncakova (6-3, 6-2) in the previous rounds of the Rosmalen tournament.
