Russian Andrey Rublev, the second seed, advanced to the second round of the Hamburg Open by edging out Spaniard Bernabe Zapata Miralles 5-7, 6-1, 7-6 (7) at Am Rothenbaum.
Rublev, ranked No 7, will play German Daniel Altmaier next.
