German Alexander Zverev, the No 4 seed, won against Frenchman Luca Van Assche 6-3, 6-4 to advance to the last four of the Hamburg Open at Am Rothenbaum on Friday evening.
Zverev, ranked No 19, will face the winner of the match between Norwegian Casper Ruud, the top seed, and Frenchman Arthur Fils next.
Ahead of his victory, the German defeated Slovak Alex Molcan (6-0, 6-3) and wildcard Maximilian Marterer (6-3, 7-5).
Van Assche, ranked No 77, beat Alexandre Muller (7-6 (3), 6-4) and edged out Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, the No 7 seed (3-6, 7-6 (5), 6-4) earlier in the tournament.
