Australian Thanasi Kokkinakis advanced to the second round of the Citi Open by edging out Japanese Taro Daniel 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 at Rock Creek Park Tennis Center in Washington on Tuesday evening.
Kokkinakis, ranked No 86, will play No 13 seed Ugo Humbert next.
