Citi Open: Thompson beats Eubanks to make last eight

Australian Jordan Thompson reached the quarter-finals of the Citi Open by winning against American Christopher Eubanks, the No 11 seed, (6-2, 6-2) at Rock Creek Park Tennis Center in Washington on Friday evening.

Thompson, ranked No 71, will face the winner of the match between American Taylor Fritz, the top seed, and No 15 seed Andy Murray next.

The Australian defeated South African wildcard Kevin Anderson (6-4, 6-7 (1), 6-1) and Frenchman Adrian Mannarino, the No 7 seed (7-5, 6-4) in the previous rounds of the Washington D.C. tournament.

In the previous round of the Washington D.C. tournament, Eubanks, ranked No 29, beat Japanese lucky loser Sho Shimabukuro (6-3, 6-4).
