Italian qualifier Matteo Arnaldi advanced to the second round of the Toronto Masters by beating Canadian wildcard Vasek Pospisil 6-4, 6-4 at the Aviva Centre on Tuesday night.

Arnaldi, ranked No 66, showed great resilience to overcome an early break in the match, with the home crowd well and truly supporting his local opponent. Next up, the Italian plays second seed Daniil Medvedev.
