Wednesday’s key matches at the Rolex Paris Masters

Alcaraz, who had a first-round bye, has never gone beyond the quarter-finals in Paris. He faces Michelsen, who beat Basel finalist Jiri Lehecka 6-7 (5), 6-2, 6-4 on Tuesday.

Zverev plays his first match as World No. 1 in the afternoon, against Lorenzo Musetti, who needed four match points to beat Hubert Hurkacz on Monday. Djokovic follows against qualifier Rinky Hijikata, a day after becoming the oldest match winner in the history of the event.

On Court 1, Medvedev, already qualified for Turin, starts against Ignacio Buse, who became the first Peruvian to win a match at the Paris Masters on Monday.

Race to Turin: Fils, Tiafoe and de Minaur start their campaign

Fils, Frances Tiafoe and Alex de Minaur, who all had first-round byes, play their first match on Wednesday. Fils, seventh in the Race to Turin, would make sure of his place by reaching the quarter-finals. Tiafoe, the seventh seed and eighth in the Race, opens the day on Court Central and needs the semi-finals.

On Court 2, de Minaur, the eighth seed and 10th in the Race, faces Tomas Martin Etcheverry, who beat Andrey Rublev on Tuesday. Tommy Paul plays Daniel Merida before them, and Taylor Fritz meets qualifier Alex Molcan after them. Both Americans are still chasing a place in Turin, and the picture will depend on Tuesday night’s match between Rafael Jodar and Casper Ruud, which would send Flavio Cobolli to Turin if Ruud wins.

Five French players in action on Wednesday

Quentin Halys opens the day on Court Central against Tiafoe, a day after his first win in Paris. On Court 1, Arthur Rinderknech meets qualifier Mattia Bellucci, before Luca Van Assche faces 15th seed Learner Tien. Ugo Humbert closes the court against Matteo Berrettini, after Nuno Borges against Karen Khachanov.

Wildcard Arthur Gea could become the sixth French player in action if he beats Jan-Lennard Struff on Tuesday. The winner will face lucky loser Thiago Agustin Tirante, who replaced Cobolli in the draw, last on Court 2.

Wednesday night session: Alcaraz and Fils on Court Central

The night session starts not before 7 p.m. with Alcaraz against Michelsen. Fils then closes the day, not before 8:30 p.m., against Machac, who beat French wildcard Kyrian Jacquet 7-6 (7), 6-1 on Monday to set up their first meeting.
