Toronto Masters: Davidovich Fokina through to quarter-finals after overcoming Ruud in tight tussle

Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina advanced to the quarter-finals of the Toronto Masters by edging out Norwegian Casper Ruud, the No 3 seed, 7-6 (4), 4-6, 7-6 (4) at the Aviva Centre on Thursday evening.
Davidovich Fokina, ranked No 37, will face American Mackenzie McDonald next.

The Spaniard defeated American J.J. Wolf (6-0, 6-2) and German Alexander Zverev, the No 13 seed (6-1, 6-2) ahead of his victory.
In the previous round of the Rogers Cup, Ruud, ranked No 5, won against Jiri Lehecka (7-6 (6), 6-4).
