US Open: Paul through to second round relatively untroubled

American Tommy Paul, the No 14 seed, won against Italian qualifier Stefano Travaglia 6-2, 6-3, 4-6, 6-1 to reach the second round of the US Open at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York on Monday.
This was a relatively seamless performance from Paul, who is favoured by many to be a dark horse at this US Open thanks to his strong form the last month. While the American did drop the third set to Travaglia 6-4, he bounced back nicely to claim the fourth 6-1 and wrap up the match inside two and a half hours.
Paul, ranked No 14, will play the winner of the match between Russian Roman Safiullin and Italian Marco Cecchinato next.
