US Open: Medvedev needs four sets to beat O’Connell and reach third round
The Russian world No 3 will face Argentinian Sebastian Baez in the next round

Russian Daniil Medvedev, the No 3 seed, beat Australian Christopher O’Connell 6-2, 6-2, 6-7 (6), 6-2 to advance to the third round of the US Open at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York on Thursday night.
Medvedev, ranked No 3, will play Argentinian Sebastian Baez next.
The Russian won against Hungarian Attila Balazs (6-1, 6-1, 6-0) ahead of his win today.
In the previous round of the Flushing Meadows tournament, O’Connell, ranked No 69, edged out Max Purcell (6-4, 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (5)).
