Zeynep Sonmez advanced to the last 4 of the Zavarovalnica Sava Ljubljana by beating Pole Katarzyna Kawa 6-1, 6-4 on Friday.
Sonmez, ranked No 177, will play the winner of the match between Slovenian Tamara Zidansek, the No 4 seed, and Russian Erika Andreeva, the No 8 seed, next.
Zeynep Sonmez won against qualifier Oleksandra Oliynykova (6-3, 6-4) and Croat Antonia Ruzic (3-6, 6-3, 6-2) ahead of her victory.
Earlier in the tournament, Kawa, ranked No 251, edged out Slovenian Dalila Jakupovic (6-4, 4-6, 6-4) and defeated Slovak Anna Karolina Schmiedlova, the top seed (7-5, 6-2).
