Guadalajara Open Akron: Baptiste advances to last 16, defeats Pliskova
Hailey Baptiste edged out Karolina Pliskova 7-6 (5), 5-7, 7-6 (4) on Monday evening and will face the winner of the match between Belarusian Aliaksandra Sasnovich and Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia, the No 3 seed, in the next round

American Hailey Baptiste moved into the last 16 of the Guadalajara Open Akron by edging out No 16 seed Karolina Pliskova 7-6 (5), 5-7, 7-6 (4) on Monday evening.
Baptiste, ranked No 174, will play the winner of the match between Belarusian Aliaksandra Sasnovich and Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia, the No 3 seed, next.
The 21-year-old American won against Mexican wildcard Lya Isabel Fernandez Olivares (6-2, 6-1) in the previous round.
In the 64, Pliskova, ranked No 36, defeated Japanese qualifier Ena Shibahara (7-5, 6-2).
