Spaniard Rebeka Masarova, the No 5 seed, edged out Swiss qualifier Viktorija Golubic 6-1, 3-6, 7-6 (7) to advance to the last 8 of the Galaxy Holding Group Guangzhou Open on Wednesday night.
Masarova, ranked No 64, will play Pole Magda Linette, the top seed, next.
Ahead of her victory, the Spaniard defeated Ukrainian Kateryna Baindl (7-5, 6-2).
Golubic, ranked No 106, won against Canadian Rebecca Marino (6-4, 6-3) in the previous round.
