Polish qualifier Katarzyna Kawa won against Spaniard Jessica Bouzas Maneiro 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 to advance to the semi-finals of the Parma Ladies Open on Thursday.
Kawa, ranked No 246, will play the winner of the match between Slovak Anna Karolina Schmiedlova, the top seed, and Slovenian Kaja Juvan, the No 6 seed, next.
The Pole defeated Latvian Darja Semenistaja (6-1, 6-3) and Spaniard Aliona Bolsova, the No 8 seed (6-4, 6-4) earlier in the tournament. In the previous rounds, Bouzas Maneiro, ranked No 133, won against Italian Nuria Brancaccio (6-2, 6-4) and Hungarian Dalma Galfi (6-1, 6-0).
