Shanghai Masters: Ruud into third round after Nishioka win

Norway’s Casper Ruud, the No 8 seed, advanced to the third round of the Shanghai Masters by defeating Japanese Yoshihito Nishioka 7-5, 6-0 at the Qi Zhong Stadium on Friday.

The Norwegian ended the match on a strong note, winning 24 of the last 28 points. Ruud, ranked No 9, will play the winner of the match between German Yannick Hanfmann and American Christopher Eubanks, the No 29 seed, next.

Nishioka, ranked No 48, edged out German Daniel Altmaier (6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (2)) in the previous round of the Shanghai tournament whereas Ruud received a bye.
