Canadian Leylah Fernandez won the Hong Kong Open title by edging out Katerina Siniakova 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 at the Victoria Park Tennis Center.
Ahead of her victory, Fernandez, ranked No 60, beat Belarusian Victoria Azarenka, the top seed (2-6, 6-3 ret.), Russian Mirra Andreeva (3-6, 6-1, 6-3), Linda Fruhvirtova (7-6 (2), 6-2) and Russian Anna Blinkova, the No 5 seed (6-2, 7-5).
Siniakova, ranked No 85, defeated Chinese Xiyu Wang (6-4, 7-6 (7)), Russian Kamilla Rakhimova (6-7 (3), 6-3, 6-1), Russian Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova (7-6 (1), 6-4) and Italian Martina Trevisan, the No 6 seed (6-4, 6-2) in the previous rounds of the Hong Kong tournament.
