Canadian Leylah Fernandez defeated Belarusian Aliaksandra Sasnovich 6-3, 6-4 to move into the semi-finals of the Jiangxi Open at Nanchang International Tennis Center on Friday.
Fernandez, ranked No 43, scored her second win of the day and in the process extended her winning streak to eight matches. The left-hander won the Hong Kong Open, her third career WTA singles title, last week.
The 21-year-old will face Katerina Siniakova next. She had won against Chinese wildcard Hanyu Guo (6-1, 6-3) and Chinese qualifier Xiaodi You (6-4, 6-1) in the previous rounds of the tournament.
Earlier in the week, Sasnovich, ranked No 90, beat Slovak Viktoria Hruncakova (6-1, 6-3) and Russian Valeria Savinykh (6-3, 6-2).
