Jiangxi Open: Siniakova avenges Fernandez loss to reach second final in a row
The Czech ended the eight-match win streak of Leylah Fernandez with a 7-5, 6-4 win
Katerina Siniakova 2024
Last week in the final of the Hong Kong Open, Katerina Siniakova went down to Canada’s Leylah Fernandez in a tight three-setter. On Saturday, the Czech woman avenged that loss by knocking Fernandez out of the Jiangxi Open in the semi-finals.
Fernandez rode into the clash on an eight-match winning streak but that was snapped by Siniakova, who won 7-5, 6-4 to reach her second final in a row.
Siniakova, ranked No 60 in the world, will play No 3 seed and fellow Czech Marie Bouzkova for the title on Sunday.
Siniakova won against Chinese wildcard Yuhan Wang (6-3, 6-3), Frenchwoman Varvara Gracheva, the No 7 seed (6-4, 6-3) and German Laura Siegemund (walkover) earlier in the week.
Fernandez, ranked No 43, had won against Chinese wildcard Hanyu Guo (6-1, 6-3), Chinese qualifier Xiaodi You (6-4, 6-1) and Belarusian Aliaksandra Sasnovich (6-3, 6-4) prior to her match today.
Nanchang WTA 250, semi-final results (Nanchang International Tennis Center, USD 259,303):
- Marie Bouzkova beat Diana Shnaider: 7-6 (5), 6-2
- Katerina Siniakova beat Leylah Fernandez: 7-5, 6-4
