American Katie Volynets, the No 7 seed, reached the second round of the Tampico Open by winning against Mexican wildcard Ana Sofia Sanchez 6-1, 6-2 at the Centro Libanés Mexicano de Tampico on Tuesday night.
Volynets, ranked No 108, will face Hailey Baptiste next.
