Mexican wildcard Fernanda Contreras Gomez reached the last eight of the Tampico Open by winning against Colombian Emiliana Arango, the No 8 seed, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 at the Centro Libanés Mexicano de Tampico on Friday evening.
Contreras Gomez, ranked No 409, will face Elizabeth Mandlik next.
In the previous round of the Tampico tournament, the Mexican beat Andorran Victoria Jimenez Kasintseva (6-2, 7-5).
Arango, ranked No 113, defeated Mexican qualifier Daniela Martinez Guerrero (6-0, 6-0) in the previous round of the Tampico tournament.
