No 5 seed Ashlyn Krueger reached the second round of the Midland Open when qualifier Varvara Lepchenko retired at the Greater Midland Tennis Center.
Krueger, ranked No 80, led 6-1, 1-0 when Lepchenko, ranked No 341, pulled out on Tuesday at the Greater Midland Tennis Center.
Ashlyn Krueger will face the winner of the match between Canadian Katherine Sebov and Swiss qualifier Lulu Sun next.
