Sinner withdraws from Paris Masters, citing fatigue after 2.37am finish

Jannik Sinner officially withdrew from the Rolex Paris Masters on Thursday, citing fatigue after finishing his match in the previous round at 2.37am.

The Italian, who edged out Mackenzie McDonald in a match that began after midnight, had been due to play Alex de Minaur.

Sinner had hinted that he may not be able to play, due to the quick turnaround, exacerbated by the fact that he was scheduled to play De Minaur in the last match of Thursday’s afternoon session.

The Rolex Paris Masters and ATP were both criticised for the late finish on Wednesday and the scheduling for Thursday, with Casper Ruud, Stan Wawrinka and Sinner’s coach Darren Cahill among the most vocal.

De Minaur will progress to the quarter-finals, where he will play former champion Karen Khachanov.
