Wildcard Fabio Fognini won against No 6 seed Lorenzo Sonego 6-1, 6-2 to advance to the last 4 of the Metz Open at Arènes de Metz on Thursday evening.
Fognini, ranked No 147, will face No 4 seed Ugo Humbert next.
Ahead of his victory, Fabio Fognini defeated Brazilian Thiago Seyboth Wild (7-6 (3), 7-6 (9)) and edged out Kazakh Alexander Bublik, the No 5 seed (4-6, 7-6 (7), 7-6 (5)).
Sonego, ranked No 49, edged out American Marcos Giron (2-6, 6-3, 7-6 (3)) and beat Jordanian qualifier Abdullah Shelbayh (6-3, 7-5) earlier in the tournament.
