Ugo Humbert became the eighth player in the Open Era to win his first five tour-level finals, beating Grigor Dimitrov 6-4, 6-3 in the Open 13 Provence.
It was his first-ever win over the Bulgarian and made him the seventh Frenchman to win the title in Marseille following in the footsteps of Guy Forget, Fabrice Santoro, Arnaud Clement, Gilles Simon, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, and Michael Llodra.
He will also become the new French No 1 when the next ATP rankings are released, overtaking Adrian Mannarino.
It is sound reward for a solid week in which he beat second seed Dimitrov, top seed Hubert Hurkacz in the semi-final, and fifth seed Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the quarter-final.
For his part, Dimitrov was aiming to become the first man to win multiple ATP Tour titles thus far this year following his win in Brisbane last month.
