Argentinian Maria Lourdes Carle, the No 5 seed, won against American Catherine McNally 0-6, 6-2, 6-3 to advance to the quarter-finals of the Puerto Vallarta Open on Thursday.
Carle, ranked No 106, will play Spaniard Jessica Bouzas Maneiro next.
Ahead of her victory, the Argentinian defeated Frenchwoman Chloe Paquet (6-3, 6-2).
McNally, ranked No 169, beat German Jule Niemeier (6-4, 6-3) in the previous round.
