Miomir Kecmanovic was in impressive form against a fatigued-looked Matteo Berrettini, beating the Italian 6-3, 6-1 to move into the second round of the Monte-Carlo Masters.
Berrettini entered the tournament off the back of winning the Marrakech Open just two days before he was due to play in Monaco.
The quick turnaround was evident throughout as he struggled to match the Serb’s intensity. After such a lengthy spell away from the match court, a deep run in Monte-Carlo after his title-winning exploits was always going to be a tall order.
So it proved to be, as the big-hitting Kecmanovic took full advantage to get his Monte-Carlo campaign off to an excellenet start.
Kecmanovic, ranked No 66, will play Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov, the No 9 seed, next.
