Argentinian Tomas Martin Etcheverry, the No 13 seed, reached the semi-finals of the Barcelona Open by defeating No 12 seed Cameron Norrie 7-6 (4), 7-6 (1) at Real Club de Tenis Barcelona.
Etcheverry, ranked No 30, will face the winner of the match between Italian Matteo Arnaldi and Norwegian Casper Ruud, the No 3 seed, next.
The Argentinian won against Dominican qualifier Nick Hardt (7-5, 6-2) and edged out American Brandon Nakashima (3-6, 7-6 (5), 6-4) ahead of his victory.
Earlier in the tournament, Norrie, ranked No 31, benefited from the abandonment of French qualifier Harold Mayot (7-6 (3), 6-7 (6), 0-0) and won against Spanish wildcard Roberto Bautista Agut (6-4, 6-3).
