Egypt’s Mayar Sherif won against Spanish wildcard Guiomar Maristany Zuleta De Reales 6-2, 6-3 to move into the final of the Catalonia Open on Saturday.
Sherif, ranked No 72, will face the winner of the match between Colombian Camila Osorio, the No 7 seed, and second seed Katerina Siniakova next.
The Egyptian had started the season by losing in the opening round of her first five events, before turning the script in Madrid where she reached the third round last week before her run to the final this week.
The Egyptian beat Belarusian Aliaksandra Sasnovich (6-3, 3-6, 6-3), Romanian Ana Bogdan, the No 8 seed (6-3, 4-6, 6-1) and American Emma Navarro, the top seed (walkover) earlier in the tournament.
In the previous rounds, Maristany Zuleta De Reales, ranked No 290, won against Japanese Nao Hibino (6-4, 1-6, 6-1), Serb Dejana Radanovic (6-5 ret.) and Dutchwoman Arantxa Rus, the No 3 seed (3-6, 6-2, 6-4).
