Russian Pavel Kotov beat French wildcard Alexandre Muller 7-6 (8), 6-1 to reach the last 8 of the Lyon Open at Parc de la Tête d’or on Tuesday afternoon.
Kotov, ranked No 57, will face the winner of the match between Australian Aleksandar Vukic and Kazakh Alexander Bublik, the second seed, next.
The Russian won against Argentinian lucky loser Pedro Cachin (6-1, 6-4) in the previous round of the Lyon tournament.
In the previous round of the Lyon tournament, Muller, ranked No 90, won against wildcard Richard Gasquet (6-4, 6-4).
