Birmingham Open: Cocciaretto makes semi-finals

Italian Elisabetta Cocciaretto moved into the last four of the Birmingham Open by winning against Russian Diana Shnaider 5-7, 6-4, 6-2 at Edgbaston Priory Club on Friday.
Cocciaretto, ranked No 44, will play the winner of the match between Kazakh Yulia Putintseva and American lucky loser Caroline Dolehide next.
Ahead of her victory, the Italian beat Latvian Jelena Ostapenko, the top seed (6-3, 6-3) and American wildcard Sloane Stephens (6-4, 6-2).
Shnaider, ranked No 49, won against qualifier Amelia Rajecki (7-5, 6-3) and No 8 seed Marie Bouzkova (7-6 (5), 6-3) earlier in the tournament.
