American Ann Li won against Pole Katarzyna Kawa 6-4, 6-2 to move into the semi-finals of the Nordea Open on Thursday.
Li, ranked No 143, will face Spaniard Nuria Parrizas Diaz next.
The American defeated Slovak Rebecca Sramkova (6-2, 6-2) and Russian Kamilla Rakhimova (6-2, 6-2) ahead of her victory.
Earlier in the tournament, Kawa, ranked No 186, edged out Ukrainian Anastasiya Soboleva (2-6, 6-2, 7-5) and Romanian Jaqueline Cristian, the second seed (6-7 (4), 6-3, 7-6 (7)).
