Thanasi Kokkinakis won against Max Purcell 6-7 (4), 6-4, 6-3 to reach the second round of the Citi Open at the William H.G. FitzGerald Tennis Center in Washington.

Kokkinakis, ranked No 91, will play No 14 seed Aleksandar Vukic next.
