American Brandon Nakashima, the No 13 seed, reached the last 16 of the Citi Open by beating Australian Christopher O’Connell 6-2, 6-2 at the William H.G. FitzGerald Tennis Center in Washington on Tuesday night.
Nakashima, ranked No 54, will play the winner of the match between qualifier Radu Albot and American Ben Shelton, the second seed, next.
In the previous round of the Washington D.C. tournament, O’Connell, ranked No 94, won against Frenchman Harold Mayot (6-4, 7-6 (3)).
