Qualifier Seong-Chan Hong won against Russian Karen Khachanov, the No 3 seed, 6-2, 6-4 to advance to the last 16 of the Citi Open at the William H.G. FitzGerald Tennis Center in Washington.
Hong, ranked No 175, will play American Alex Michelsen, the No 15 seed, next.
Ahead of his victory, Seong-Chan Hong defeated Australian Adam Walton (7-6 (6), 7-6 (4)).
