Australian Alexei Popyrin beat Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov, the No 7 seed, 4-6, 7-6 (5), 6-3 to reach the quarter-finals of the Montreal Masters at Stade IGA.
Popyrin, ranked No 62, will play the winner of the match between French qualifier Arthur Rinderknech and Pole Hubert Hurkacz, the No 4 seed, next.
Earlier in the tournament, the Australian won against Tomas Machac (6-3, 6-4) and American Ben Shelton, the No 11 seed (6-4, 7-6 (4)).
Dimitrov, ranked No 10, defeated Australian qualifier Rinky Hijikata (6-1, 6-0) in the previous round of the Rogers Cup.
