Italian Jannik Sinner, the top seed, edged out German Alexander Zverev, the No 3 seed, 7-6 (9), 5-7, 7-6 (4) to reach the final of the Cincinnati Masters at the Lindner Family Tennis Center on Sunday night.
Sinner, ranked No 1, will play the winner of the match between American Frances Tiafoe and Dane Holger Rune, the No 15 seed, next.
Earlier in the tournament, the Italian beat American qualifier Alex Michelsen (6-4, 7-5), Australian Jordan Thompson (W/O) and Russian Andrey Rublev, the No 6 seed (4-6, 7-5, 6-4).
Zverev, ranked No 4, won against Russian Karen Khachanov (6-3, 6-2), Spaniard Pablo Carreno Busta (7-5, 7-6 (6)) and American Ben Shelton, the No 12 seed (3-6, 7-6 (3), 7-5) in the previous rounds of the Cincy Open.
