Ruud misses chance for another deep US Open run
Taylor Fritz beat Casper Ruud 3-6, 6-4, 6-3, 6-2 on Sunday evening and will face German Alexander Zverev, the No 4 seed, in the next round

American Taylor Fritz, the No 12 seed, won against Norwegian Casper Ruud, the No 8 seed, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3, 6-2 to advance to the quarter-finals of the US Open in New York on Sunday evening.
Fritz, ranked No 12, will face the winner of the match between American Brandon Nakashima and German Alexander Zverev, the No 4 seed, next.
In the previous rounds of the US Open, the American defeated Argentinian Camilo Ugo Carabelli (7-5, 6-1, 6-2), Italian Matteo Berrettini (6-3, 7-6 (1), 6-1) and Argentinian Francisco Comesana (6-3, 6-4, 6-2).
Ruud, ranked No 8, beat Chinese qualifier Yunchaokete Bu (7-6 (2), 6-2, 6-2), Frenchman Gael Monfils (6-4, 6-2, 2-6, 7-6 (3)) and Chinese Juncheng Shang (6-7 (1), 3-6, 6-0, 6-3, 6-1) earlier in the tournament.
