American Emma Navarro, the top seed, reached the quarter-finals of the Hong Kong 125 Open by defeating Australian Kimberly Birrell 6-2, 6-4 on Thursday.
Navarro needed 75 minutes and five break points to overcome Birrell, who also converted two break points.
Navarro, ranked No 8, will play Russian Anna Blinkova, the No 7 seed, next.
The American won against Swiss Viktorija Golubic (7-5, 6-4) ahead of her victory.
In the previous round, Birrell, ranked No 146, beat Chinese qualifier Yidi Yang (6-2, 6-0).
