Metz Open: Michelsen edges past home veteran Gasquet to reach last eight

American Alex Michelsen, the No 8 seed, moved into the quarter-finals of the Metz Open by edging out French wildcard Richard Gasquet 6-7 (4), 7-6 (3), 7-6 (8) at the Arènes de Metz.
Michelsen, ranked No 44, will face the winner of the match between Chinese Yunchaokete Bu and Dutch qualifier Jesper De Jong next.
Ahead of his victory, the 20-year-old American won against French wildcard Harold Mayot (6-3, 6-1).
Gasquet, ranked No 133, edged out Brazilian Thiago Monteiro (4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (6)) in the previous round of the Metz tournament.
