Leyre Romero Gormaz moved into the quarter-finals of the Cali Open by beating qualifier Alicia Herrero Linana 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 on Wednesday evening.
Romero Gormaz, ranked No 168, will face Australian qualifier Tina Nadine Smith next.
Ahead of her victory, Leyre Romero Gormaz won against Argentinian Julia Riera, the No 5 seed (7-6 (5), 6-3).
Alicia Herrero Linana won against Colombian wildcard Yuliana Lizarazo (6-3, 6-2) in the previous round.
