American Robin Montgomery advanced to the second round of the Auckland Open by winning against Japanese lucky loser Mai Hontama 6-3, 2-6, 6-0 at the ASB Tennis Arena on Tuesday.
Montgomery, ranked No 117, will face Japanese qualifier Nao Hibino next.
