ATP Auckland: Michelsen sets up all-American clash against Basavareddy

American Alex Michelsen, the No 8 seed, moved into the quarter-finals of the ASB Classic by defeating Italian Lorenzo Sonego 7-6 (3), 6-2 on Wednesday.

Michelsen, ranked No 41, will face fellow American Nishesh Basavareddy next at the ASB Tennis Arena.

Michelsen won against Indian qualifier Sumit Nagal (6-7 (8), 6-4, 6-2) in the previous round of the tournament.

In the previous round of the tournament, Sonego, ranked No 54, edged out Canadian wildcard Gabriel Diallo (7-6 (5), 2-6, 7-6 (7)).
