Martinez stuns Rune in Rotterdam second round; faces Alcaraz next

Pedro Martinez reached the quarter-finals of the ABN AMRO Open by beating Holger Rune, the No 5 seed, 6-4, 6-1 at the Rotterdam Ahoy on Thursday.
It was a dominant performance in the return game for Martinez, who broke Rune four times while advancing in one hour and 23 minutes.
Martinez, ranked No 44, will play top-seeded Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz next. The Spaniard beat Roberto Bautista Agut 6-3, 6-2 in the previous round of the Rotterdam tournament.
In the previous round of the Rotterdam tournament, Rune — ranked No 14 — defeated Italian Lorenzo Sonego 7-6 (4), 6-4.
The Dane was clearly less than 100 percent physically throughout Thursday’s match and indicated afterward that he was dealing with an illness.
“Tough night,” Rune wrote on social media. “Did my best but couldn’t fight my fever down. Hope to be fresh soon. Than you Holland for your support”.
