Ugo Carabelli second lucky loser into Rio second round

Argentina’s Camilo Ugo Carabelli moved into the second round of the Rio Open by beating Spaniard Pedro Martinez, the No 7 seed, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 at the Jockey Club Brasileiro in Rio de Janeiro on Tuesday night.

After getting a lucky-loser spot in the main draw when Alejandro Davidovich Fokina withdrew, Ugo Carabelli advanced past Martinez in two hours and 23 minutes. The world No 91 will face Damir Dzumhur, of Bosnia, in the last 16.

Lucky loser Jaime Faria also booked a spot in the second round on Tuesday.
