Spaniard Jessica Bouzas Maneiro edged out Slovak wildcard Renata Jamrichova 7-5, 5-7, 7-5 to move into the last 16 of the Mérida Open Akron on Tuesday.
Bouzas Maneiro, ranked No 66, will play Armenian Elina Avanesyan next.
