Cristian gets free pass into last 16 at Merida Open
Jaqueline Cristian got a second-set retirement from Yuliia Starodubtseva on Tuesday in Merida. Paula Badosa is next up for Cristian.

Jaqueline Cristian advanced to the second round of the Mérida Open Akron when Ukrainian lucky loser Yuliia Starodubtseva retired on Tuesday night.
Cristian, ranked No 85, led 6-4, 4-1 when Starodubtseva, ranked No 109, called it quits.
The Romanian will next face second seed Paula Badosa.
