Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina reached the last four of the Mexican Open by beating Mexican wildcard Rodrigo Pacheco Mendez 6-2, 6-2 at the Arena GNP Seguros in Acapulco on Friday.
Davidovich Fokina, ranked No 48, will face Canadian Denis Shapovalov, the No 9 seed, next.
The Spaniard won against Italian lucky loser Mattia Bellucci (1-6, 7-6 (6), 6-2) and American Frances Tiafoe, the No 7 seed (6-3, 6-7 (6), 6-3) earlier in the tournament.
In the previous rounds of the Acapulco tournament, Pacheco Mendez, ranked No 356, edged out Australian Aleksandar Vukic (7-5, 4-6, 7-6 (4)) and benefited from the forfeit of Norwegian Casper Ruud, the second seed.
