Mérida Open: Navarro ousts defending champion Sonmez
Emma Navarro eased past Zeynep Sonmez in the Merida quarter-finals on Friday. Elina Avanesyan is next up for Navarro.

Emma Navarro, the top seed, beat wild card Zeynep Sonmez 6-4, 6-2 to move into the semi-finals of the Mérida Open Akron on Friday evening.
Navarro, ranked No 10, will next face Armenian Elina Avanesyan.
The American previously defeated Croat qualifier Petra Martic (6-1, 6-2) in Merida.
Sonmez advanced to the last eight by beating Greek Maria Sakkari, the No 8 seed (7-5, 6-2) and Pole Magda Linette (6-3, 3-1 ret.). The world No 88 was the defending champion.
