Indian Wells WTA 1000: McNally advances to second round via Tomlijanovic retirement

American Catherine McNally reached the second round of the Indian Wells WTA 1000 when Australian qualifier Ajla Tomljanovic retired after losing the first set 6-4 at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden on Thursday.

McNally, ranked No 491, led 6-4 when Tomljanovic, ranked No 94, pulled out on Thursday night at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden.

The American will play No 24 seed Liudmila Samsonova next.
