Miami Open: Swiatek downs Svitolina past midnight to make quarter-finals

Pole Iga Swiatek, the second seed, defeated Ukrainian Elina Svitolina, the No 22 seed, 7-6 (5), 6-3 to reach the quarter-finals of the Miami Open at the Hard Rock Stadium on Monday.
Swiatek, ranked No 2, will play Filipino wildcard Alexandra Eala next.
The Pole won against Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia (6-2, 7-5) and Belgian Elise Mertens, the No 27 seed (7-6 (2), 6-1) earlier in the tournament.
In the previous rounds of the Miami tournament, Svitolina, ranked No 22, won against Swiss Belinda Bencic (6-1, 6-2) and No 15 seed Karolina Muchova (6-2, 3-6, 6-2).
